Elaphria versicolor
Many thanks for the suggestion - having looked through all the Elaphria sp. images, I am sure you are right about the species too. The great thing is that this led me to another Elaphria ID - see
, which had me foxed but now I believe is an E. grata. Your opinion on that one would also be much appreciated.

Nigel, I don't understand. I have already commented on this one and agree with you but am not expert enough to move it to species. I would need confirmation.

Elaphria
Hi Anne. I thought I was acting as expected as a BG contributor. Back in November (see
) I had an exchange with Cliff Ivy in which he encouraged me to move images to species following input if I was confident of the ID. I have had a long career as a professional scientist and well understand the importance of getting things right – I certainly do not want to be responsible for incorrect or misleading information, and I welcome corrections. In this particular case, I have looked through all the Elaphria sp. Images and Info pages and came to the conclusion that only E. versicolor fits the bill. In addition, this move was catalyzed by the ID of another of my images
by Marcia Morris, which made me re-examine the BG Elaphria images. Finally, while this is not evidence for the ID, I note that the only other Elapria sp. moths reported in the states closest to Block Island (RI, MA and NY) are the Pale and the GratefuI, neither of which match my images. I hope this convinces you of the seriousness of my approach. However, if you think I should move the images to a more generic level, please let me know. I really do appreciate your help.

Goodness, Nigel. I am very sorry for the confusion. I was not disagreeing with your move, but was confused about being asked to give an opinion when I thought I had already done so. You are the scientist and I am just a picture identifying grandmother with no background for this, so I try to be careful,

Anne. I don't think you were
Anne. I don't think you were being asked for an opinion, so much as being automatically notified of a move on a page that you had commented on. And do not belittle yourself - your skills have been extremely useful to me!
