Infraorder Tabanomorpha
The Tabanomorpha typically have convex face (below the antennae) and the antennae usually bear a stylus. Males are nearly or fully holoptic except in Vermileonidae. The costa extends throughout the entire perimeter of the wing, although may be weaker posteriorly. The empodia on the tarsi are pulvilliform, thus making the tarsi appear to have 3 pads.
