lemonadeberry psyllid - Calophya californica - female

lemonadeberry psyllid - Calophya californica - Female
Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 20, 2012
I've recorded this species on lemonadeberry in coastal So. CA from multiple localities in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, including Catalina Island, from March to June. While usually present on the host, it never appears to be particularly abundant. The females are golden yellow while the males are more or less black on head and thorax; note also the long white genal cones which should help to distinguish it from similar Calophya.

Very tiny species, I've not had the best luck getting photos of it, especially the males. Hope to change that soon.
