Noctuidae: Acronicta increta - Acronicta increta

Noctuidae: Acronicta increta - Acronicta increta
Fisher, Polk County, Minnesota, USA
June 22, 2015
Size: Length ~ 1.5 cm
This specimen may be a very dark example of the Small Oak Dagger (9249), I think

Acronicta cryptica?
Acronicta cryptica Schmidt & Anweiler, 2020 (1) might be possible. Let me know if the habitat is right, sandy woodland with Quercus velutina (Black Oak). Your others all seem to be increta. If you get these darker ones with low contrast on the forewinges, try checking the hindwings too.

Thanks, Steve!
The distribution of Black Oak is limited to a small SE corner of Minnesota, according the Minnesota DNR. Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) is the only oak species hardy enough to withstand winters in NE Minnesota, and this oak species is abundant where this very dark Acronicta (BG# 1088704) was found and photographed, Steve. I'm mothing in eastern Washington nowadays, in my retirement, so it's unlikely I'll return to Fisher, MN to look for other dark specimens in the near future.

ok
We'll let it be then. Thanks!
