Cheesequake State Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA
September 10, 2011
Not sure on the ID here, using Capinera, Scott and Walker for my ID.

male Dissosteira carolina
Melanoplus punctulatus is a smaller animal, usually more grey, and found in/on pine trees. See . This guy is Dissosteira, recognized by the one large cut in the pronotum. It should have had black wings with a pale border. This is a much more active, flighty, sun-loving species.

Moved from Pine Tree Spur-throat Grasshopper.
