Unidentified Odonata - Cordulegaster diastatops

Unidentified Odonata - Cordulegaster diastatops
Adirondack Mts., northern Saratoga County, New York, USA
June 22, 2015
Is this a Dragonhunter (Hagenius brevistylus) or something else?
Sorry, I wasn’t able to get a dorsal photo.

Spiketail
I think Twin-Spotted Spiketail - Cordulegaster maculata but I may be wrong

Unidentified Odonata
Thanks Larry! My photo fits nicely with the BG photos of Cordulegaster maculata.

Not maculata
It's actually Cordulegaster diastatops, not maculata. Note how the spots on the abdomen are larger, and positioned more laterally.

C. diastatops
Thanks for the i.d. tips, both of a subjective nature unfortunately. I guess separation gets easier with experience with the two species. I found another field mark you mentioned on a previous submission re: eyes not touching in C. diastatops whereas they do in C. maculata.
