eucalyptus psyllid - Blastopsylla occidentalis - male

eucalyptus psyllid - Blastopsylla occidentalis - Male
Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 25, 2015
A fairly distinct species; found on Eucalyptus. This species does not create lerps but there was noticeable spotting and discoloration of the leaves caused by feeding. I was only able to get photos of this male, but from what I could tell the females were slightly darker and larger; I did not notice any nymphs. Adds the species (and genus) to bugguide.

With this, bugguide only needs 2 more members of this subfamily: Cryptoneossa triangula on lemon-scented gum (Corymbia citriodora) in CA, and the biological control Boreioglycaspis melaleucae on Melaleuca quinquenervia in FL.
