Mexican Cactus Fly - Copestylum mexicanum
Fountain Valley/Mile Square Regional Park, orange County, California, USA

Size: approx 3/4 of an inch
I'd like to know what this insect is. Is it a Carpenter Bee? It was very large, shiny, and busy going from flower to flower in the 'Nature Area' at Mile Square Regional Park.
