Oak Hairstreaks nectar on a variety of spring flowers, including down in prickly-pear flowers, as here. For a quick ID, note the strong W in the underside of the hindwing, underlined by a straight white/orange dash, above the single blue hind-wing spot. These butterflies also nectar on milkweed (here, on Antelope Horns and other early prairie milkweeds, wild onions, legumes, and dogbane.
