Robber fly with bumblebee prey - Efferia - female

Robber fly with bumblebee prey - Efferia - Female
Petersen Creek Park, Kamloops, Thompson Region, British Columbia, Canada
June 28, 2015
How do they subdue a bee this size? Is it feeding? An image of a very similar insect was submitted last year and provisionally identified as Efferia benedicti. This specimen however, has a dark stripe down the abdomen which is not seen on the BG images of E benedicti. Any observations on the identification of the prey?
