Joyce, does this larvae glow?
Joyce, does this larvae glow?

BTW- Nice! You always find the coolest stuff! Is it the female of this species that glows, or the larvae, or both? It is rather confusing! My inexpert searches have yielded contradictory information! I've always be curious and hoped to find a glowing glowworm.

glow
I didn't see this larva glow. I found it during the daytime. From what I can figure out, Ellychnia larvae are somewhat luminescent, but adults are not. Yes, I'm finding contradictory information also.... hmmm. Next time I find one of these (I don't see them often), I'll have to put it somewhere dark and see if it glows.

Thanks, Joyce!
If it works the way I think it does, maybe one has to go looking for them at night in the right area, and right time of year.

I can't imagine that happening for me in the city, but I'd love to find one!
