Hump-Back Dung Beetle - Deltochilum Gibbosum - Deltochilum gibbosum - male

Hump-Back Dung Beetle - Deltochilum Gibbosum - Deltochilum gibbosum - Male
Kannapolis, North Carolina, USA
June 6, 2015
Large dung beetle caught in pitfall trap baited with raw chicken, human and feline faeces. Definitely Deltochilum Gibbosum, given its size & prominent bumps on the elytra. There are no pastures very close by & I wanted to sample the local dung beetle population given that fact. This is the only specimen of this species I've collected thus far, while I've collected several Onthophagus Hecate specimens & one male O. Taurus (will upload photos of these later). I plan on continuing the experiment, perhaps setting other traps with different types of bait.

This guy currently resides in a terrarium & I'm attempting to keep him alive long enough to perhaps acquire a female, as I would like to try breeding & rearing these impressive beetles. Any advice on this?
