beetle - Herthania

beetle - Herthania
Port Coquitlam, Lower Mainland, British Columbia, Canada
May 12, 2007
Size: 5mm

Moved
Moved from Herthania concinna.

Moved
Moved from Cyphon.
By my opinion the pattern is characteristic enough to move the image. Cyphon spp. are rather monochromous as a rule.

Moved
Moved from Marsh Beetles.

Scirtidae family
:-)

Thanks Boris!

possibly Cyphon concinna
if you have a copy of "Insects of the Pacific Northwest"(1), check out the only Marsh Beetle pictured there. Yours sure looks close, if not an exact match.
However, since C. concinna was by LeConte, I just checked the MCZ type photo shown here, and it looks different enough to give me pause.

Cyphon
MCZ type photo also looks similar (also with golden hairs and rather elongate for Cyphon); the colourpattern could be variation perhaps; genus seems safe to me.

...
Thanks guys!
