Ant mimic spider - male

Ant mimic spider - Male
Tulsa Zoo, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA
May 6, 2007
Size: 5 mm
This little guy was hanging around with acrobat ants (these guys). I know they're tiny, but I just happened to look down and notice that this animal moved a little bit differently than the ants. Lo and behold, it's a spider that closely resembles the ants. If this wasn't enough of a cool find this week, I saw another one at my house today (5/12/07) on the front door screen, not near any ants.

Moved
Moved from Antlike Jumping Spiders. Taxonomic changes have eliminated this subfamily; this is just a housekeeping move.

An
adult male Synageles or Peckhamia.

...
I looked around before posting the information, and Peckhamia is the closest thing I found, but I wasn't convinced by what I saw on here. Since I'm not overly well-versed in spider morphology, can you tell me what distinguishing features let you know that this is an adult and also that it's male?

I tried to resize the photos to where they'd look the best on Bugguide, but for some reason my really nice shots look kind of blurry. I'm sorry that some of my images aren't as crisp as they could be.

Size
The space on the page is 560 x 560 pixels. If your image is bigger than that, the system shrinks it to fit, losing some of the detail. You and the editors can see the original full-size format by clicking on the image, but the other contributors can't.

If you have an image with so much detail that it won't fit in 560 pixels, it's better to post the full size so at least the editors can see all the details- but in this case the extra pixels are empty background and should be cropped to make it a 560-pixel image.

I should add that your images look fine to me. Jeff spends a lot of time trying to make out minute anatomical features, so he can be a bit touchy at times about really blurry images.

One can always improve things, but I don't think you need to be self-conscious about what you've posted so far

Thanks
I try to resize my images (and crop them accordingly) to fit the pixel limits, but some just don't look that good to me when posted. I think part of my problem is a got a new digital SLR with a good macro lens and my photos aren't as good as I want them to be. It always takes time to learn to use new equipment effectively.

I appreciate your comments and will try to worry less about how my images look on the site. Thanks for your response.
