Pecan nut casebearer, Acrobasis nuxvorella Neunzig - Acrobasis - male

Pecan nut casebearer, Acrobasis nuxvorella Neunzig - Acrobasis - Male
Clint, El Paso County, Texas, USA
April 24, 2014
Caught in a PNC (Pecan Nut Casebearer) pheromone trap placed in the middle of a commercial pecan orchard. This is an extremely abundant pecan pest in the region and the key pest in pecan production in Far West Texas.
The other pest that results in frequent pesticide applications is the Black Pecan Aphid, Melanocallis caryaefoliae. The plant damage by this aphid species consists of yellow, angular patches (between leaf veins) that may cause defoliation. The Blackmargined Pecan Aphid, Monellia caryella, is usually tolerated at much higher population levels by farmers.
