Jewel beetle - Chrysobothris dentipes - female

Jewel beetle - Chrysobothris dentipes - Female
North Cheyenne CaƱon park, Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA
July 4, 2015
Size: ~15-20 mm
Images identified conclusively by Rick Westcott and Ted MacRae on a Facebook group devoted to Buprestidae and Cerambycidae. Several females were ovipositing on a pine log (probably Ponderosa Pine), plus a male or two. Females aggressively chased female Phaenops gentilis that were also ovipositing. Habitat is mixed conifer forest with Gambel's oak, chokecherry, and other shrubs in the understory. Pretty open woodland at that spot. Elevation roughly 6,700 ft.
