From Greek trochanter, runner (1).
Identification
trochanter noun - the second, and typically smallest, joint of the insect leg. Moving outward from the body it comes after the coxa and before the femur. See the diagram of insect and spider legs above.

trochantin - the proximal of the two segments into which the trochanter of the leg of an insect may be divided and which is often united with the coxa (Merriam-Webster)
trochantine noun - A posterior subdivision or projection of the coxa. (Packard.) (Jardine, identical to trochantin?)
