Female - Sphex ashmeadi
There are no images posted of this species from your state, until now! Yes, I already checked
Discoverlife.org
and there have been some sightings reported from Texas. (southwestern range) Congrats!
Sphex ashmeadi
: ♀
The males have black femora and the females have red femora (with black bases) and your images also show her tarsal rake. Nice shooting!

Thank you Bob!
This is my bug highlight for the day. I remember this wasp being extremely active and imposing. I wonder if this is an expansion of geographical range or simply under reporting from certain areas. I have gotten lucky more than a few times and by now I should be keeping track of my interesting finds. Thank you for taking the time to research this species and helping me out with its ID. If you keep praising my humble photos, I will have to buy a new hat... Thanks!

under-reported or under-identified, haha!
Texas: ♀
She came in just before your submission and there could be more. I haven't looked at them all.
