Grape Vine Borer? - Cimbex americanus - female

Grape Vine Borer? - Cimbex americanus - Female
Antelope County, Nebraska, USA
June 15, 2015
Hello,
We were visiting Grove Lake near Neligh, Nebraska (Northeast Nebraska) last June and I found this amazing guy on a grape leaf in an area with a lot of grapevines. The grapes had just started to set fruit. He was very tame and sat for a long time while I tried to get some clear photos. I apologize for any fuzziness. I can't see very well with my new glasses.

Thank you, Ross! I have to admit, this one had me flummoxed. Thanks for adding the link to resources. I'm so excited to see this beautiful new insect.
So, it was just a coincidence that she was on the grape leaf? This was at the edge of deep woods.

Right...
The larvae feed on a number of hosts, but grape does not appear to be one of them.

Right
The nice thing about her was that she really didn't care that she was modeling for me. I had the lens right up to her and she was like, "meh". I have a short video of her walking.
