White on orange vertical - Gazoryctra wielgusi
White Mountains about 8,000 ft elevation near Lee Valley in spruce/fir, Apache County, Arizona, USA
July 17, 2015
Size: wingspan 40mm
I first assumed this was some species of Tiger Moth, but despite obvious pattern could not find a match. Now wondering if it could be a Ghost Moth, perhaps Gazorycta mathewi, or a species not previously recorded in Arizona. The habitat, spruce/fir near large grassy meadows seems to fit the genus.
