Explanation of Names
Latin lamella, a thin plate or scale.
lamellate adjective, noun lamella, plural lamellae - plated, sheet or leaf-like; composed or covered with laminae. In describing insect antennae, having only the apical portion (tip) flabellate (fan-shaped). Originally the term was lamellatæ (Jardine).
