thanks v and Ken
Today I looked at
Coriomeris
specimens at the Essig museum, which has both
occidentalis
and
humilis
. I couldn't tell the difference between them, even though I tracked down a copy of the key and in theory knew what to look for.
The Dolling and Yonke paper
(
1
)
suggests that
humilis
may not be west of the Sierras. But there are
humilis
specimens from pretty much all over the state at the museum.
I wonder if they are really two different species?
I'll probably have another look later this week. Will post something if I figure anything out. BTW, the specimen in the image above is going to Essig.

good to know the voucher specimen goes to Essig
"I wonder if they are really two different species?" --exactly the point i was trying to make; the D&Y paper has failed to convince me, too

Moved tentatively; nice find!
apparently, 2 spp. in Calif.: the transcontinental
C. humilis
and the endemic
C. occidentalis
; no idea how to differentiate the two -- the subtle differences i see may or may not be diagnostic, although
C. humilis
seems to be a closer match to me, while the key
(
1
)
seems to slightly favor
C. occidentalis
, can't really decide
Moved from
Leaf-footed Bugs

Wondering if it might be...
...something in/near
Coriomeris
:
That's the closest I've been able to get, at any rate.
