Eastern Yellowjacket (Vespula maculifrons) queen
This picture is especially interesting, because only a minority of the queens of this species (mainly coming from the southern part of its range) have the two small, comma-shaped spots, on the rear half of the mesocscutum of the thorax. Note the broad arrow-shaped black spot on the first gastral tergite, which is typical for this species. The small worker so greatly photographed by Mr Richard Leung (#7471) has exactly the same and is a Vespula maculifrons, too.
