Nitidulidae? - Sphaerites politus

Nitidulidae? - Sphaerites politus
HJ Andrews Experimental Forest, Linn County, Oregon, USA
July 1, 2013
Size: 5mm
Found in a in a forest-floor flight-interception trap sample. The tarsal formula for this one was 5-5-5 and it has truncate elytra. This specimen is a bit extended, but in another specimen it looks like only one abdominal tergite is not covered by the elytra. It keys out to Nitidulidae, but looks a bit different than others species I've seen in this family.

Thanks again!
We learn so much from you. I'll go back to the key to see where I might've gone wrong.

the pleasure is all mine...
...because you post really neat stuff, Bill.
these are nice beetles --but using keys to beetle families is a regular torture, i haven't done it for perhaps 30 years, and, hopefully, won't have to ever again, unless so ordered by a court of law
