Jassa marmorata

Jassa marmorata
Block Island, Washington County, Rhode Island, USA
July 21, 2015
On large submerged rocks off a sandy beach. Coloration is apparently unusual for the species; I'll have to collect again next summer as I don't remember whether I found more with this coloration. Interestingly, the propodus of the second chela is about the only part with the standard patterning. At first I identified this as Ischyrocerus anguipes owing to the solid coloration but the coxae fit this species. (Along with the size of the second chela of the female and and the shape of the hind margin of the propodus of the second chela of the male, this is a character that differentiates the two species.)
