Cordulegaster dorsalis? - Phanogomphus kurilis

Cordulegaster dorsalis? - Phanogomphus kurilis
Fairfax, Marin County, California, USA
May 18, 2007
Size: About 2 1/2 inches?
Perched on the ground by reservoir. Book says they perch by hanging and yellow marking on segments towards head are narrower than pictures in books I have.

Moved
Moved from Clubtails.

Pacific Clubtail
Looks like a Pacific Clubtail to me, too. Nothing else in Marin County looks like this, anyway. Olive Clubtail shouldn't be in the same area.

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies.

Clubtail
The eyes look quite far apart on the head, which would make it a clubtail. I don't know western ones at all, but I'd guess Pacific.

Can you crop the image down a bit more? There's a lot of extra vegetation in there and I'm having a hard time actually seeing the insect.

cropped
Sorry it took a while. I needed to get someone to show me how to do that. I've posted a new cropped one.
