Formicida -- Tapinoma?

Formicida -- Tapinoma?
Champaign County, Illinois, USA

Tapinoma indeed!

Not so sure
This looks Lasi-ish to me, Brendon.

I can see that for sure. The second submarginal cell and the long mandibles are the key things I used to infer the ID. No formicine has a closed SMC2, and the mandibular form of *Tapinoma* (and other dolichoderines) is not found in the Formicinae. It would be nice to see the head in closer view to confirm that the mandible has finely serrate margins continuing along a rounded basal margin, but for now I'd go with *Tapinoma*. Edit: a weak supporting character is presence of well-developed metatibial spurs. All *Tapinoma* I have observed have a metatibial spur, while many *Lasius* lack them altogether (and those that do have them have "simple" rather than barbirulate or pectinate spurs).
