Explanation of Names
Acmaeodera ornatoides Barr 1972

May prefer areas with sandy soil
Apr-Jun in TX (BG data)
Larvae bore in wood of Escarpment Live Oak (Quercus fusiformis) and probably other oak species. Also Persimmon (Diospyros texana) (1)
Adults are nectarivorous, recorded on blooms of Prickly Pear (Opuntia sp.), Poppy-Mallow (Callirhoe sp.), Thistles and more.

The species limits of A. ornata and A. ornatoides are ill-defined [...] too much so to be confidently identified from a single specimen there. Barr himself did not designate as paratypes a number of specimens, even some well within the area where he had paratypical specimens.
