Prionini sp. - Trichocnemis spiculatus - Female
Aromas, Monterey County, California, USA
July 7, 2015
I know this is a member of the member of the subfamily Prioninae, but I'm having trouble getting it to genus and species. None of the ones I've found match the spinal pattern along the thoracic margin and using the key in Swift et al's article "The genus Trichocnemis LeConte, 1851 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Prioninae" the closest I could get was Callergates gaillardoti, a Eurasian species. Any assistance in identifying this beetle would be greatly appreciated.

It was found in the wood of a long-fallen and deeply rotten Monterey Pine.

Trichocnemis spiculatus
It appears to me that the antennal segment III is distinctly longer than IV+V, which gets us past Callergates. Then the marginal spines in the middle of the pronotum are distinctly shorter than those at the anterior and lateral angles of the pronotum. Too bad the elytral apices are damaged so that we can't see whether they were spined or not. I think, then, that it's safe to call this one T. spiculatus.

Thank you very much! I realize where I had misread the key and added segments IV-VI. I agree with your ID and greatly appreciate your help.

Cheers!
