I think it's a rhinoceros beetle but I was unaware of their existence in south Dakota. Xylorycetes jamaicensis maybe?

Is White Ash,
Fraxinus americanus found in this area?

Not sure
I was on a trip when I found the specimen so I cannot check but the tree I found it close to was an ash tree of some variety. I didn't think much of it though. Edit: upon some light research it appears that there is documented white ash a couple hours north of where I collected. So it is reasonable for it to be in the area.
