It's hard for me to tell if the first pair of dots on the thorax are on the dorsal side, or the lateral side, so I question whether this is peacock or a false peacock. It did not stop moving so could not get the best photos.

Clearly succinea, which is also much more common that australis from the material I have seen!

Thanks, Martin! It's too bad it is more common since apparently this one is an accidental introduction and is considered a possible threat to some native plants. Just the same, it's an interesting fly and I wish I could have gotten better shots!
