Tobacco Hornworm, Carolina Sphinx Moth larva - Manduca sexta

Tobacco Hornworm, Carolina Sphinx Moth larva - Manduca sexta
Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California, USA
July 29, 2015
Size: 3+ inches
On a tomato plant. Two heirloom plants had one caterpillar each this year. Since we had plenty of tomatoes we just let them munch away. They fed on both leaves and fruit.

The day after this shot was made both worms disappeared, probably to pupate since the plants are in pots on a deck, fairly well protected from birds.
