I just noticed this one hiding with House Crickets
It is not Acheta, and I'm fairly sure it is a dark Gryllus personatus. A very common species in the West, but very rarely noticed. Not sure why I didn't notice before. The best way to distinguish males is the vein pattern on the wings of adult males, which is very different (less finely reticulate, and more irregular) than on females. Also, of course there is no ovipositor. Wing length varies a lot in several species (in both males and females), but in G. personatus they are usually long in both genders.

Moved from House Cricket.

Looks
more like a male... the "underwings" are longer than normal on most males.

Hi Vespula !
My info came from a Guide Book....I am no expert on sexing Crickets....I don't have a handle on how long the male's "underwings" are normally. Do you have photo's or illustrations that show the difference?

theres probably nothing
wrong with the info that you got, and im no expert either! :)
the "underwings" on this cricket are long, and i can see how you might have looked at it and thought it was a female with an ovipositor.
yes, as a matter of fact i do have pics showing the difference, if you want me to email them to you! ;)
