I was leading an insect walk for the Kestrel Trust, a local conservation nonprofit. We were watching an Ebony Jewelwing when someone pointed out this dragonfly perched nearby. I was very excited to see that it was a Somatochlora! The combination of slightly upturned, slightly fuzzy-looking terminal appendages with the bright yellow, sharply contrasted yellow thoracic markings, plus the habitat (shady outflow creek from a dammed-up pond) being a perfect match for what is mentioned in the MA odonate field guide, pointed us to this species, but I'll ask some friends for confirmation.... My little camera was not able to get a decent photo, but fortunately Kestrel's photographer John Body was on hand with some more capable equipment!
