Is it time for someone to describe this species?

this species better take a number
taxonomists have too much stuff to take care of, and too little resources; many 'well-known undescribed species' have to wait for decades, and for good reasons

another thing is, nowadays taxonomists often wait for the material to accumulate from across the range to have a better idea of the taxon's delimitation, and are reluctant to describe things before the picture (variability, relationships, etc) is sufficiently clear -- or before the entire group of species is ready to be revised

it is prudent and wise to avoid describing single species piecemeal as they get discovered; sometimes an expert accumulates hundreds of new species and describes them all as part of a revision, in one paper

the practice of describing random new taxa as they come to someone's attention, just to have them formally named, is becoming a thing of the past
