Catastega or Acrobasis? on Quercus stellata - Acrobasis minimella

Catastega or Acrobasis? on Quercus stellata - Acrobasis minimella
Mehan, Payne County, Oklahoma, USA
August 7, 2015
Size: ~8mm, not straightened
in a case of excrement cemented with silk. When first observed yesterday, the larva moved out and retreated several times. Now the end appears sealed, and presumably the moth is beginning to pupate.
The end of the case is covered with a loose silk cover dotted with frass.

Moved
Moved from Oak Trumpet Skeletonizer.

I'm thinking now that Catastega cases are not so sinuous, and only appear later in the season.

Interesting
Unfortunately the pupa eventually rotted, though it appeared viable until about 1.5 months ago. I found a new one about 2 weeks ago, but have seen no activity (I am keeping it in case it rears an interesting parasitoid). I hope to find more, as the adult looks pretty cool (at least on google image searches) with Mompha-like tufts.

Moved from Butterflies and Moths.

I believe I have this right. I'm trying to rear a few right now.
