I think you nailed it. When I first encountered it, I believe I heard a buzzing like a wasp over my head and this spider landed on the concrete at my feet. I had the distinct impression that a wasp was carrying it and dropped it. I just read in Wkipedia that mud daubers target it. Mud daubers are prolific around here. Thanks. Although tarantulas are common, the biggest I run into are wolf spiders, or the black/yellow ones I see at the lake. This one gave me the willies.
