Leaf-blotch Miner - Caloptilia packardella

Leaf-blotch Miner - Caloptilia packardella
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
May 22, 2007
Spotted flying above ground vegetation then landing to rest on a leaf. Not the clearest image, but I thought I'd post one for Ontario. This moth looks somewhat like C. packardella from the MPG plates, but I'm not sure since there are so many species in this genus. Any thoughts on that?

Moved from Caloptilia.

It Does Look Like a Good Match....
... but it is a very large genus with many look-alike species. It might require genitalic or genetic matching to be certain at the species level. An excellent source for Canadian photos in this genus is at All-Leps Barcoding Project

Thanks Bob
for the info and link. Given the possibly large number of look-alikes for this species, I'll leave this at genus level.
