Great black wasp with katydid prey - Sphex pensylvanicus - female

Great black wasp with katydid prey - Sphex pensylvanicus - Female
Milton, Rock County, Wisconsin, USA
August 9, 2015
I believe this is a great black wasp (Sphex pensylvanicus). I photographed the wasp on the concrete driveway near my house, where it had carried its subdued katydid prey and was attempting to haul it through a crack in the concrete into its nest beneath the foundation of the building.
