Creeping Water Bug - Pelocoris femoratus

Creeping Water Bug - Pelocoris femoratus
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
May 22, 2007
Size: ~1 cm
Captured at a nearby pond and released. John Epler's Key to Aquatic Heteroptera of Florida was used for identification of genera. In fact he notes:

"Four genera of Naucoridae occur in North America, but only one, Pelocoris, is known from Florida and the eastern United States."

This is most likely P. femoratus based on markings and is the most commonly collected.
