Red-Spotted Purple Admiral For Illinois In May - Limenitis arthemis

Red-Spotted Purple Admiral For Illinois In May - Limenitis arthemis
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
May 21, 2007
Data posting for this species in Illinois, for the month of May.

This is only the second one of these I've seen this year, both of them during this month. I hope I can get a better shot of one to replace this image. It's not my favorite, but at least it shows the butterfly well.

We had a bit of a cold spell for 2 or 3 days last week and now there's hardly anything out there moving around in the insect line. I think it's also the lull in between the first and second broods of a lot of butterflies I normally see and that cold snap might have finished off the last raggedy stragglers I was seeing.

Looks like a fine shot to me.
But I'm easily swayed by shallow depth of field with spots of color (blue) that complement the subject (orange spots). Hey, I have those colors in my living room!

Thanks, Ron!
I did not know that this one had some blue on it. I guess it's just another variation in all the one's I see. Thanks for letting me know about that, too.
To tell the truth, I don't actually know what color many butterflies are. I usually only go by patterns and shapes.

Knew, but forgot temporarily.
The blue I was referring to is in the background, but there is some in the butterfly too.

Blue In The Picture
I think there has only been one picture I've uploaded this month that I knew blue was in the background. And that was the one of a Silver-Spotted Skipper with the clear, blue sky behind it.
