Some Kind of Fly - Xenox tigrinus

Some Kind of Fly - Xenox tigrinus
Fayetteville, Fayette County, West Virginia, USA
August 12, 2015
Size: 2-3cm
I found this resting on the dead flower heads of one of last year's box ironflowers. I honestly thought it was a hawk moth when I first saw it, until I realized I was actually looking at a significantly large fly. (It's about as large as the average Poplar Hawk Moth.) Was seen on a foggy, overcast morning, weather was cool, and the fly was docile. Thank you for your help!

Thanks so much! It's my first time seeing this one.
