Cicada. - Neotibicen

Cicada. - Neotibicen
Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA
August 13, 2015
Size: Standard.
I also like Cicadas. I remember hearing them buzz about last year - they made such a fantastic noise. This year none were heard.
Instead I found this specimen crawling around in the early morning hours. It looks like an Adult but it has no wings. Is this one still a nymph or did something go wrong during its growth? It was plenty lively as it crawled along a sidewalk.

I don't know the exact species name, but it is a Cicada. I was careful to avoid stepping on it, and allowed it to continue trundling down the sidewalk. Perhaps more Cicadas will sing next year. Now, it is time to prepare for the Autumnal creatures that might show up.

Genus Neotibicen
Probably Neotibicen canicularis or N. linnei
These are typically late summer species and mid-August is right on time for them.

ID
Thanks for the identification. It is nice to know what species it is, and that it was on track for maturing.

I did hear some other cicadas singing the other day - I suppose there were still a few left out there.

please crop image so that the bug fills the frame
photos showing mostly background often fail to attract expert attention
