I found this caterpillar feeding on wild black cherry (
Prunus serotina
).

We forget which one is found on cherry but we'll check
Oops - looks like both Viceroys and Red-Spotted Purple can be found on Cherry. We think they can be separated, but it is challenging as you can tell from the 60 or 70 caterpillar images sitting on the genus page.

Guess I forgot about the other horned cats. Probably Red-spotted Purple since Viceroy is usually found on willow. Perhaps we will be able to tell since I have the cat sleeved with a 5 gal. paint filter.
