These uncommon crabs were abundant at the lowest tide. The proportions of the rostrum are distinctive of this species.

Moved from Lithodidae. Weird little things... I've never seen anything like it and there's nothing at all like it in the northeast.

How identified? I'm not familiar with the crabs in your area so I'll check the ID then make the species page. It certainly looks consistent with images online.

 
ID
There are only two species in the area. The shape of the rostrum distinguishes the two definitvely. Reference here.
