Identification
chrysalis noun, or chrysalid, plural chrysalises - the pupa (resting, transformative stage) of a butterfly. A chrysalis is usually not covered with silk--it is more or less naked--that is, there is no covering of silk (cocoon) as in many moths. The attachment point, if present, of the chrysalis to a surface is called the cremaster.
