Identification
egg noun - in entomology, egg can refer to the ovum, the female reproductive cell, but more generally (and somewhat loosely) refers to first stage of life (the ovum after fertilization), where the insect undergoes embryonic development while encased in the egg. The insect (or other arthropod) then hatches (or ecloses) and is a first instar larva, or nymph.
