Psocodea nymphs on a limestone outcropping - Blastopsocus lithinus

Psocodea nymphs on a limestone outcropping - Blastopsocus lithinus
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 16, 2015
These were on a vertical limestone outcropping. At the time I wondered about the small piece to the left; was it a bit of fossilized coral or perhaps something connected with the nymphs? I later saw this and revisited the limestone outcrop finding another bit of coral/egg something which easily crumbled when pressed with my fingernail. Might it be leftover from eggs?

Thanks for moving.
It's a reminder to go look as it's that time of year.

My pulse is quickening!
This is all so fascinating: communal nymphs, limestone outcrop, possible egg impression... I want to know more!! OK, it's January but please do pursue this further. Let's get some adults and send a few to me.

OK, Diane,
They are out again, clustered together on the limestone. Also found 2 of the impressions but not in the exact location as the nymphs.

I did collect a few early nymphs, an older looking nymph in with the younger ones, an adult on the limestone but not with the nymphs along with bits of lime rock, lichen and moss.

I know nothing about these. What do I do now? How do you want me to proceed? Your turn.

Close-ups
A barklouse

and the mystery object:

As far as I know, barklice all lay elongate eggs, whereas these seem to be the impressions of spherical (or at least circular eggs), so I'm not sure they're related to the barklice, but I guess I'm not sure they're not either.

Dr Mockford says, "Don't know-- too small."
hope these were collected (and sent to Diane?)

I did not collect this one,
but there's (maybe) next year.

:/

.
Charley collected.

No...
I just borrowed it to photograph. I think that one is in your freezer?

You are correct.
I suffer from Random Access Memory.

I just pulled the vial out of the freezer, 5 nymphs, varying sizes, and the little egg impression as well. I have another psocid so will package them up and send to Diane.

Thanks for taking the great photos. The nymphs are no longer fresh looking.
