Arenivaga sp. 2 - Arenivaga bolliana - male

Arenivaga sp. 2 - Arenivaga bolliana - Male
Wimberley, Hays County, Texas, USA
August 18, 2015
This cockroach was found by my son. It had apparently drowned in the kiddie pool. Looks similar to Arenivaga sp. I found last week, except it has more dark mottling and the "face" on the pronotum is not as defined.

Moved from Arenivaga.

This one looks very much like A.bolliana
Have you ever found any females? I would love to keep some of these in culture.

ID confirmed by H. Hopkins

I have found at least two females, last year. I posted some pictures of a female last year here on bg.
I kept her and she did have babies, but they are in my community terrarium and I haven't seen them in a while. But then they are nocturnal and in the soil most the time, and grow very slowly, so maybe they're still in there?
Last year the males seemed bigger and in much greater numbers than this year (probably due to the flood we had back in May). But then they are our most common, even if not found that often, Arenivaga species. haven't found any females this year though, probably also due to the weather, it's barely rained at all since the flood, and been super hot.

Hopefully it works..

Ah yes, I've seen that post.
Nice pics btw. Well if you ever have excess I may be interested in taking a few off your hands. ;)

Thanks. :) And sure thing. I was hoping to start a colony myself some day, but I've been told I already have too many bugs. Which is of course, nonsense! I'll keep an eye out for some for you.

Pffft! There's no such thing as having too many bugs! ;)
