Stalker Pond near Wray, Yuma County, Colorado, USA
August 14, 2015
Size: 3 mm or so
Stalker Pond is surrounded by Russian Olives and weedy fields, in turn surrounded by ag fields and rolling sage grasslands. I suspect all aphids present are of the same species, but I picked out two individuals for scrutiny. This ID regards the one with the large rounded abdomen

Aphids within the same colony can be fairly variable. The ones you are referring to both look like adults, but one may be more hydrated or older and full of embryos so much rounder. There are also several nymphs in these images, and the one with the big shoulder pads is an alatoid nymph, so it would have had wings when it became an adult.
